DAHLONEGA – No. 2 University of North Georgia Softball pitcher Tybee Denton has been named as the Chick-fil-a Nighthawk of the Week after picking up three wins last week and helping her team sweep a road series at Columbus State.

Yet again Denton pitched a trio of complete games this week, all of which were wins, for the Nighthawks. 

The week started for Denton with a five inning, 9-0 win at Shorter in which Denton allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out six batters. 

In game one of a double header against Columbus State, Denton pitched seven complete innings with 10 strikeouts to mark her fifth outing with double-digit Ks this year. 

The next day, Denton helped seal the sweep of the Cougars with a five inning, four strikeout performance in which she allowed just three hits. 

Sunday's win marked Denton's 20th of the year and made her the first pitcher in NCAA Div. II with 20 wins this season. At a 20-1 record, Denton's .952 win percentage is the highest in the country of any pitcher with 17 or more wins. 

This is the third time in her career and second time this season that Denton has earned the Chick-fil-a sponsored weekly award.

Her and UNG look to continue its six-game win streak this week with a Wednesday double header at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park against Alabama Huntsville. First pitch in game one on Apr. 10  is set for 1 p.m. before the Nighthawks get ready to face Georgia College in a home conference series this weekend.

UNG needs one win in the three game slate against the Bobcats to clinch the PBC regular season championship, as they've already secured a share of the title. That series begins Saturday, Apr. 13 with a double header starting at 2 p.m.

Beginning in the fall of 2014, the UNG athletic department began honoring one student-athlete each Monday morning as the Nighthawk of the Week. The award is chosen each Sunday evening by an award selection committee made up of members of the UNG athletics administrative staff.
