COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 6 University of North Georgia women's tennis team earned its second ranked win of the season in a 5-2 victory over No. 15 West Florida on Saturday afternoon.

The Nighthawks grabbed easy wins in the #1 and #3 doubles matches to take the early lead. The powerful duo of junior Angelina Linnikova and senior Svetlana Teterina collected its 11th doubles win of the season with a 6-4 victory in the #1 doubles contest. Linnikova and Teterina are now 11-1 in all doubles matches this season.

In the #3 doubles, it was senior Valentina Ascarrunz and junior Carolina Reis picking up the 6-2 win to secure the doubles point. Ascarrunz and Reis have been stellar as a pair this season, going 12-0 in the #3 doubles spot on the year.

In the singles battle, Ascarrunz made quick work in the #5 singles match with a 6-4, 6-2 win to give UNG a 2-0 lead.

Just a few minutes later, Teterina grabbed her ninth singles win of the year with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the #4 singles slot.

The Nighthawks needed just one more win in singles to secure the victory.

They got it when senior Johanna Lippert came from behind in the #2 singles match to win in three sets. After losing the opener 6-2, Lippert recovered and took down Argonaut sophomore Aline Midori Da Silva 6-4, 6-2 in the final two sets to earn the win.

No. 12 Linnikova also won the #1 singles match 6-3, 7-6 (7-5 tiebreaker) for good measure. Linnikova is now 11-1 in singles competition on the year.

Now UNG looks forward to a home match against Lander on Thursday, Mar. 28. From the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek, the Bearcats and Nighthawks will begin the match at 2 p.m.
