Box Score YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The No. 13 University of North Georgia women's tennis had a perfect day in a road match against Young Harris Wednesday afternoon. The Nighthawks swept the competition, taking down the Mountain Lions 7-0.
In fact, UNG only lost one set the entire day. It was the opening set for Nighthawk senior and ITA No. 23 singles player
Johanna Lippert.
Lippert dropped the first set against senior Emily Bush, 6-2. However, she stormed back to win the second set 6-4 and the third set 1-0 (10-0).
In the doubles matches, it took the Nighthawks just 26 minutes to snatch the doubles point from the Mountain Lions.
With quick 6-4 and 6-2 wins coming from the No. 18 duo of Lippert & senior
Viktorie Wojcikova and the No. 22 pairing of junior
Angelina Linnikova & senior
Svetlana Teterina respectively, UNG was quickly in control early.
ITA No. 5 singles player Linnikova only lost one game on her way to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the #1 singles match to grab another early point.
Wojcikova sealed the match for the Nighthawks in her singles competition with a 6-2, 6-0 performance in the #3 singles. Her dominance made it 4-0 in favor of UNG, sealing the match for her team.
Now the Nighthawks get ready for a week-long competition in Chattanooga, Tenn. during the Scenic City College Tennis Spring Break Showcase.
UNG will face a tough field when competing in five matches over seven days, including a ranked showdown with No. 3 West Alabama. This will be the second ranked opponent head coach
Kent Norsworthy's squad has faced this spring after taking down No. 18 Auburn Montgomery just five days ago on Feb. 24. The Nighthawks top-15 showdown with the Tigers will kick off the showcase for the team on Friday, Mar. 8 at 1 p.m. at the Champions Club Tennis Complex at Rivermont Park.
