ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The No. 1 University of North Georgia men's golf team sits in second place out of 20 schools after the opening rounds of the Spring Kickoff hosted by Lincoln Memorial at St. Johns Country Club.
The Nighthawks shot a 285-289—574 and sit just two strokes behind the clubhouse leader, No. 5 Georgia Southwestern.
North Georgia's
Will Chambless is in second place individually in the 104-player field after carding a 68-70—138. He is one stroke behind the leader Bernard Meyer of Columbus State.
No. 16 Lander is in third as a team at four-over while No. 4 LMU and No. 25 Columbus State are tied for fourth at five-over.
Hughes Threlkeld sits in a tie for ninth following his 70-73—143.
Ethan Day is in a tie for 29
th following a 74-73—147 while teammates
Jack Vajda and
Stephen Kinsel share 37
th place after posting matching four-over scores.
After a slow start, the Nighthawks battled back to take the team lead midway through the second round but ran into some trouble late to slide back into second place behind the Hurricanes. GSW and North Georgia are the only two teams under par heading into the final round.
The final round of the 54-hole is set to tee off tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.
