LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has revealed the 2023 NFCA Division II All-Region teams. Three University of North Georgia softball players have been named to their respective Southeast All-Region teams.
Tybee Denton,
Sydney Blair and
Sophie Mooney were honored, earning their first-career NFCA All-Region selections.
Denton was named as a first-team selection, earning a 17-1 record this season while posting a 2.19 ERA in 25 appearances and 118 innings pitched. Denton has thrown ten complete games this season, with three shutouts holding opposing batters to a .177 batting average.
Blair joins Denton on the first team, continuing a successful freshman campaign by adding All-Region honors in her first year in Dahlonega. Blair shined amongst a star-studded roster for North Georgia, finishing the regular and Peach Belt Conference season with a .418 batting average and a .464 on-base percentage while stealing 19 bases.
Mooney earned second-team All-Region honors after being a key factor inside the circle and at the plate, owning a 9-2 record with a 2.00 ERA, holding opponents to a .162 batting average while posting a .438 batting average her own. Mooney owns a .703 slugging percentage, finishing with 10 home runs and 62 RBIs, stealing 16 bases on 17 attempts.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's eight regions with first and second-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region nominated their student-athletes and voted for the teams. All the honorees are now eligible for selection to the 2023 NFCA Division II All-America squads. This year's squads are comprised of 204 student-athletes from 112 programs.
