GREENVILLE, S.C. – The NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) unveiled University of North Georgia sophomore forward
Frank Champion as its 2022-23 Southeast Region Men's Basketball Player of the Year. Champion's honor highlights the D2CCA Southeast Region Men's Basketball All-Region teams.
A 6-foot-7 forward from Lithonia, Georgia, Champion enters tomorrow's men's basketball Southeast Regional averaging 20.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.6 steals per game. His 14 double-doubles during the regular season rank him fourth nationally in NCAA DII.
Champion is on the Bevo Francis Top 50 Watch List for this season and is the first Nighthawk ever to be named the PBC Player of the Year, now adding the program's first Region Player of the Year award to his historic season.
Athletic communication professionals from NCAA Division II Southeast Region schools and conferences selected the D2CCA all-region teams. The process concludes with All-American selections announced later in the month. The NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners sponsor the All-Region teams.
Champion and the seventh-seeded Nighthawks will face second-seeded UNC Pembroke in the first round of the NCAA Southeast Regional on Saturday (Mar. 11) at 2:30 p.m.
