No. 17 North Georgia Gets First Win of the Season Over Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Picking up their first win of the season, the No. 17 University of North Georgia rifle team defeated Wofford 4630-4363, with the top three aggregate scores coming from North Georgia shooters.

Elysa Walter led the way, shooting 587 in smallbore and 597 in air rifle for an 1189 aggregate score, finishing first in all three categories. Maya Cameron finished second in all three, shooting 578 in smallbore and 591 in air rifle to secure an 1169 aggregate score.

Freshman Courtney Allison made her mark in air rifle, shooting 549 in smallbore and rolling to a 585 in air rifle to grab the third spot on the team and overall. Alysa Yancey finished fifth in aggregate scoring in the match and fourth for North Georgia, adding a 527 in smallbore and 583 in air rifle for an 1110 aggregate score.

Jaden-Ann Fraser and Madison Kennedy rounded out the top ten finishers in the match, with Fraser shooting 573 in air rifle and Kennedy shooting 560 in smallbore to help secure the season's first victory.

Next for the Nighthawks is a road match against VMI on Saturday (Oct. 14) as North Georgia looks to continue their momentum in SoCon action. VMI finished fourth with a 4360 score in a challenging event that featured top-ranked TCU and ninth-ranked Navy in the season opener.
