STATESBORO, Ga. — In their season-opening match, the No. 17 University of North Georgia rifle team came up short against the 12th-ranked Eagles of Georgia Southern as GSU had one of the best performances in the program's history to defeat the Nighthawks 4617-4695.
Two of the top returning shooters in the country, Addy Burrow (GSU) and
Elysa Walter, finished in first and second overall, with Burrow turning in an aggregate score of 1185 while Walter finished at 1179.
Maya Cameron finished fifth overall in aggregate scoring, shooting 1167, adding 577 in smallbore and 590 in air rifle.
Freshman
Alysa Yancey and
Courtney Allison rounded out the top ten individual finishers for North Georgia, with Yancey placing ninth overall with an aggregate score of 1141 and Allison finishing just behind her at 1139.

The Nighthawks will get right back to work, facing Wofford on Sunday (Oct. 8) on the road in Spartanburg, S.C. Wofford fell to The Citadel 4389-4566 in their match on Saturday (Oct. 7).
