DAHLONEGA - A strong second half propelled the No. 13 University of North Georgia women's basketball team to a 75-68 come from behind win over Georgia Southwestern Wednesday night in the first game of the 2022 calendar year.
North Georgia jumped out to a 17-11 lead before GSW went on a 14-5 run to end the first period. The Hurricanes then extended their lead to as many as nine in the second quarter on their way to a 38-33 lead at intermission.
UNG continued to claw away at the lead before finally overtaking GSW late in the third quarter, tying the game at 54 on an
Abbie Franklin three pointer and then taking the lead with a
Jamari McDavid buzzer-beating layup. The Nighthawks stretched their lead to 10 on two occasions and then held on down the stretch for their third PBC win of the young conference schedule.
NOTES
- McDavid netted a double-double, tallying 24 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Franklin added 19, including five three pointers, while
Caroline Martin and
Julianne Sutton put up 16 and 11, respectively.
- GSW's Ava Jones scored a game-high 33 points, a career high.
- UNG assisted on 17 of 25 made buckets. GSW had just five assists on the night.
