DAHLONEGA - The No. 22 University of North Georgia baseball team fell in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship Series opener Saturday afternoon to Columbus State, 25-5.
After the Cougars pushed four runs across in the top of the first,
Andres Perez cut the lead to one with a three-run blast. Columbus State responded, though, by scoring the next 13 runs, including two in the second, seven in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth to make the score 17-3.
The Nighthawks pushed a run across in the sixth on a
Tim Conway RBI single and another in the seventh on a RBI groundout, but the Cougars answered with the final six runs in the eighth to get to the final score.
NOTES
- The 25 runs scored is the most in a single game in the PBC Tournament's history, surpassing Kennesaw State's 22 in 1997.
- Conway led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI.

North Georgia will have to repeat last weekend's performance to capture their first PBC Tournament Championship since 2008, needing to force the "If Necessary" game by winning tomorrow at 1 p.m. If UNG wins, the championship game will take place 45 minutes after.
