DAHLONEGA - The No. 16 University of North Georgia women's tennis team got back in the win column with a 7-0 win Monday over Georgia College in Peach Belt action.
Leading 1-0 before the match started due to a win by default on the sixth singles line, the Nighthawks quickly clinched the doubles point with a defaulted win on No. 3 line and a 6-2 win on the top line by
Vaishali Jorge and
Johanna Lippert. Keeping the momentum going,
Anna Markvartova and
Annie Adams won on the second doubles line in a 7-6 (3) tiebreaker.
Markvartova brought the match to a 3-0 score with a 6-3, 6-2 win on the second singles line before Claudelle Labonté Frey won the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win on the fourth line. Jorge kept the shutout intact with a come-from-behind win on the top line, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Adams also won a three-set showdown on the third line, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, before Lippert finished off the shutout with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5.
North Georgia jumps back out of conference play for a Tuesday afternoon match against No. 18 Queens at 12:30 p.m. in Dahlonega.
