VALDOSTA, Ga. - For the first time in program history, the No. 22 University of North Georgia men's tennis team defeated a top five team as they pushed past No. 4 West Florida, 4-3, Saturday.
After the Argos took the No. 3 doubles match,
Ryan Gaskin and Kevin Candido Magnusson forced the doubles point to come down to the final doubles match with a 6-2 win on the top line. West Florida earned the point with a 6-3 win on the No. 2 line.
Joaquin Benoit got the Nighthawks even with a 6-3, 6-2 win on the second singles line before Candido gave North Georgia a 2-1 lead with a 6-2, 7-6 (6) win on the fifth line. Gaskin kept the momentum going with a win at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 7-6 (8), before
Giulio Sassi won the overall match for the Nighthawks with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles. The Argos won the remaining two matches in three sets each to get to the final score.
North Georgia will look to continue the winning ways with a Monday match in PBC action against Georgia College. First serve from the UNG Tennis Complex is set for 2 p.m.
