PEMBROKE, N.C. - The No. 4 University of North Georgia softball team took a pair of run rule victories over UNC Pembroke Sunday afternoon.
GAME ONE - #4 UNG 8, UNCP 0 (6 inn.)
After the Nighthawks pushed a run across in the first on a Brave error, UNG struck again in the third on a
Margaret Simmons two-run blast that pushed the lead to 3-0. North Georgia stretched the lead out again in the fourth off a RBI single from
Marley Holmes.
The sixth inning proved to be the big inning for UNG, plating four off a
Cheyanne Mosteller RBI double, another Brave error and a
Madison Simmons RBI triple that took the game to the eight-run limit.
Kylee Smith (13-3) went five innings of four-hit shutout softball, fanning four along the way.
GAME TWO - #4 UNG 14, UNCP 2
Gracie Mixson got the Nighthawks on the board first with a RBI single in the second inning, but the Braves took their only lead of the game in the bottom of the frame, plating a pair off a RBI double and a fielder's choice.
North Georgia responded quickly with a trio of RBI doubles in the third to push the lead to 5-2 before blowing the game open with an eight run fourth, highlighted by a
Margaret Simmons three-run blast, a Holmes RBI double and a three-run bomb from
Shelby Hammontree.
Margaret Simmons finished the scoring with a solo homer in the fifth.
Tybee Denton (7-2) earned the win in relief, throwing 3.1 innings of one-hit softball, striking out six.

Margaret Simmons finished the week 11-for-26 with six homers, 11 runs scored and 16 RBI. She now has 19 homers, leading the Peach Belt in the category.
- North Georgia's magic number to clinch their seventh straight PBC regular season championship is down to three.

The Nighthawks will play host to USC Aiken on Saturday with first pitch set for 2 p.m. Senior Day festivities will also take place Saturday.
