COLUMBUS, Ga. - Cade Heil threw a complete game shutout as the No. 22 University of North Georgia baseball team won the first game of a three-game set against No. 24 Columbus State Friday, 4-0, at Burger King Stadium.
The Nighthawks scored a pair in the fourth to be the first to the scoreboard, scoring on a bases loaded RBI single from
Nik Levensteins and a sacrifice fly from
Jake Howard that plated
Bill LeRoy.
Three innings later, LeRoy and
Brady Eeles had RBI singles that took the score to 4-0. From there, Heil finished off the game, forcing the Cougars to leave a total of six runners on base.
NOTES
- It was the first time that the Cougars have been shut out at home since March 23, 2019. UNG has not shut out Columbus State since April 16, 2017, also in Columbus.
- Heil fanned five batters while giving up just five hits and a walk.
- All 11 of North Georgia's hits were singles.
