No. 23 Men's Tennis Earns 7-0 Win Over Augusta

DAHLONEGA - The No. 23 University of North Georgia men's tennis team shut out Augusta Tuesday afternoon to open Peach Belt Conference play with a 7-0 win at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek.

The Nighthawks made quick work of doubles, winning on the top line with Ryan Gaskin and Kevin Candido, 6-1, and on the second line with Zach Waldow and Joaquin Benoit, 6-3. The third line of Jared Bones and Giulio Sassi were up, 5-2, when the point was clinched.

Singles went in much the same way as UNG won all six in straight sets. Sassi was first off the court at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-2 win, followed shortly after by Waldow's 6-2, 6-3 win on the third line. Benoit clinched the fourth point and the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2.

Gaskin and Candido won at No. 1 and No. 5 singles, respectively, with identical 6-2, 6-2 scores before Tim Kiehl wrapped up the match with a 6-1, 6-2 score at No. 6.

North Georgia will head up the road to Francis Marion Friday for another league match.
