DAHLONEGA - The No. 15 University of North Georgia women's tennis team opened up Peach Belt play in the best way possible, shutting out Augusta, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon.
The Jaguars only had five players, resulting in defaulted matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles and a 1-0 lead for UNG prior to the match beginning. The Nighthawk tandem of
Vaishali Jorge and
Johanna Lippert won on the top doubles line, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point and put North Georgia on top, 2-0.
From there, the Nighthawks took over singles, winning all five matches in straight sets.
Anna Markvartova won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0, to be the first off the court before Jorge clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win on the top line.
Annie Adams,
Svetlana Teterina and Claudelle Labonté Frey also won their matches with the latter winning, 6-1, 6-0, to secure the shutout.
North Georgia will stay inside conference play to travel to Francis Marion on Friday.
