DAHLONEGA - Despite dropping the doubles point, the No. 15 University of North Georgia women's tennis team remained unbeaten with a 5-2 win over Carson-Newman Saturday afternoon at the UNG Tennis Complex.
Carson-Newman won the first two doubles matches off the courts, claiming 6-3 and 6-4 wins on the third and first lines, respectively, before
Annie Adams and
Johanna Lippert started to turn the momentum for the Nighthawks with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
Cibeles Zuddy brought the match even with a quick 6-1, 6-4 win on No. 2 singles, finishing just ahead of
Anna Markvartova at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win. Adams pushed the Nighthawk lead to 3-1 with her straight set win on the fourth singles line.
The Eagles brought the match to 3-2 with a three-set win on the top line, but UNG closed out the match with straight set wins by Claudelle Labonte Frey (6-0, 6-0) and Rafaella Villanueva (6-2, 6-2).
North Georgia will be back on the courts Tuesday when they open league play against Augusta. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
