DAHLONEGA - The No. 3 University of North Georgia women's basketball team fell Monday night in the South Region championship game to No. 5 Lander, 67-48.
The Nighthawks and Bearcats traded haymakers early on with neither team gaining a significant advantage, but in the second half, Lander outscored North Georgia, 34-20, to earn their spot in Columbus, Ohio, for the Elite Eight.
NOTES
- The All-Tournament team consisted of Valdosta State's Kwajelin Farrar, Union's Jaelencia Williams, North Georgia's
Julianne Sutton and Lander's Makaila Cange and Zamiya Passmore, the latter being named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
- Sutton led UNG with 14 points and was the only Nighthawk in double figures. Passmore led all scorers with 22 points, while Cange recorded her second straight double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds.
- The Nighthawks were 2-for-21 from beyond the arc, while Lander shot 7-for-18, including 7-for-14 in the first half.
- North Georgia finishes the year at 18-2.
