DAHLONEGA - No. 5 Lander used a 7-0 run to finish off No. 12 Valdosta State and advance to the NCAA Division II South Regional Championship Monday night.
After the Bearcats jumped out in front, 12-4, the Lady Blazers went on a 22-16 run to cut the lead to two by halftime and took their first lead of the contest early in the third period at 31-30. Valdosta State led the majority of the second half until the final seconds when Lander pushed out for the 7-0 run.
Makaila Cange led Lander with 20 points and 10 rebounds while Miriam Recarte also recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Kayla Bonilla led VSU with 18 points.
Lander will advance to a rubber game with No. 3 North Georgia Monday night in Dahlonega with a trip to Columbus, Ohio, and the Elite Eight on the line.
