PEMBROKE, N.C. - A 52-19 second half was the difference as the No. 15 University of North Georgia women's basketball team won their fifth straight in an 87-54 Saturday afternoon showdown at UNC Pembroke.
North Georgia took an early 11-point lead before the Braves stormed back to take their first lead of the game at 35-33 with one minute left in the first half. After the Nighthawks tied the game up at 35-35 headed to the locker room, the two sides traded slim leads to open the third quarter before UNG went on an 18-2 run to put the game away.
The Nighthawk defense clamped down in the fourth quarter after a layup for UNCP to open the period, holding the Braves without a field goal for the final 9:45 of the game.
NOTES
- Five Nighthawks finished in double figures, led by
Kara Groover's 17 points and eight boards.
Lacie McCoy put up 14,
Julianne Sutton added 13,
Josie Earnhardt scored 12 and
Caroline Martin had 10.
- North Georgia scored 26 points in every quarter except the second.
- The Nighthawks went 22-for-28 from the free throw line.
