FLORENCE, S.C. - Katey Derkay scored the first goal of the match in the ninth minute, kicking off her first collegiate hat trick as the University of North Georgia women's soccer team improved to 2-0-0 on the year with a 6-1 win over Francis Marion Thursday night.
Derkay started off the first goal of the night with a give-and-go between her and
Maysoon El-Shami, resulting in a goal on the left side of the net to put UNG up, 1-0. Eight minutes later, Francis Marion equalized off a Kiley Barr goal, but the Nighthawks answered in the 28th minute with a
Taylor Malasek goal off the post that put North Georgia up for good.
Derkay scored in the 36th minute from four yards out before
Abbie Crane scored two goals within 13 seconds of one another in the 38th minute, both off assists from El-Shami. Derkay finished off the scoring in the 59th minute with a long range shot from the right side of the 18.
