AMERICUS, Ga. - A 10-point lead after the first quarter was the difference as the No. 12 University of North Georgia women's basketball team defeated Georgia Southwestern, 69-58, Saturday in the Storm Dome.
After GSW hit the opening bucket of the game, UNG went on a 13-0 run to take a 13-3 lead, spurred on by three made baskets from
Lacie McCoy. The Nighthawks led, 20-10, after one quarter of play, an advantage that proved to be the difference.
The final three quarters were each one-point differentials between the Hurricanes and the Nighthawks. The 'Canes cut the lead to two in the third quarter, but UNG responded with a 9-0 run to stretch the lead back out to 11. GSW never got closer than eight the rest of the way.

Julianne Sutton led UNG in scoring with 14 points in 17 minutes of action. McCoy added 12 off the bench, while
Caroline Martin contributed 11.
- North Georgia assisted on 16 of 23 made baskets. The Hurricanes had just five dimes.
- The Nighthawks finished 19-for-31 from the charity stripe. GSW was 17-for-28.
