DAHLONEGA - The No. 2 University of North Georgia softball team dominated Hillsdale Sunday in two five inning run rules, winning 18-2 and 12-2.
GAME ONE - UNG 18, HC 2 (5 inn.)
North Georgia jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning, using a
Shelby Hammontree RBI single and a
Mallory Parker sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead. The Chargers scratched a run across in the third before the scoreboard lit up in favor of the home team in the bottom of the inning.
Madi Perry got the third inning going with a RBI single, followed by
Jaycie Michael's two RBI single to get to a 5-1 score. After a run came across on a Hillsdale error,
Olivia Sinquefield doubled to score two more and
Kate Ashmore singled to plate a seventh run in the frame.
North Georgia put up another major number in the fourth, starting with Sinquefield's RBI single. After
Gracie Mixson brought home the 11th run,
Kate Ashmore cleared the bases with a double down the line in left, making it 14-1.
Kiley Hubby and
Marley Holmes also got in on the action with RBI singles that got UNG to 18 runs. HC's Sarah Wojcik scored a run in the fifth to bring the game to its final.
Abbie Crawford (1-0) earned the win, going four innings and allowing just one unearned run off two hits while sitting down two Chargers via strikes.
GAME TWO - UNG 12, HC 2 (5 inn.)
The Nighthawks started with a bang in the second half of the twinbill, going back-to-back with
Margaret Simmons and
Madison Simmons hitting homers that put UNG up, 3-0, through two complete. Hammontree kept the bombs coming in the third with a two run shot to center field, kicking off an eight run inning.
Madison Simmons,
Kaylyn Anthony and Sinquefield bringing home two runs each on base hits.
Michael brought home UNG's final run of the day in the fourth on a RBI single up the middle before Natalie Stepanenko brought home two Chargers in the final frame.
Laken Chambers (2-0) pitched four scoreless innings, fanning four.
NOTES
- Of the 12 runs scored by North Georgia in the second game, only three were earned.
- Sinquefield finished the day 4-for-7 at the plate.
