DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia baseball team continued to put up big numbers on the scoreboard as they swept a Friday twinbill with USC Aiken in Peach Belt Conference action. The Nighthawks took game one in an 11-1 run-rule game before a 9-0 shutout in the second half.
GAME ONE - UNG 11, USCA 1 (7 inn.)
North Georgia struck first in the second inning when
Brady Eeles blasted a homer over the right field wall that scored two. One inning later,
Andres Perez plated
Crews Taylor on a RBI double to give the Nighthawks a 3-0 lead.
After a North Georgia three run burst in the fourth, the Pacers finally got on the scoreboard with a David Jacobs pinch hit homer to cut the lead to 6-1. That would be all USC Aiken got as the Nighthawks answered with a
Tim Conway sacrifice fly to get the run back before
Nik Levensteins had his turn with the long ball, this time a three run bomb that gave UNG a 10-1 lead.
The Nighthawks finished the game with a Conway RBI single in the seventh that walked off the game.
Steven Bower (2-0) earned the win, going the distance while sitting down 12 Pacers via strikes.
GAME TWO - UNG 9, USCA 0
North Georgia got on the board quickly in the first, scoring on a passed ball and a wild pitch to go up, 2-0, early. Perez got the Nighthawks back on the scoreboard with a bomb in the third before the bats woke up again in the sixth.
UNG walked in a run to get the inning started just before Perez tripled with the bases loaded to push the lead to 7-0. After a Levensteins RBI groundout,
Jake Arnold singled through the left side to push the ninth run across.
Parker Morrison (2-0) went the distance for the second straight start, striking out 10 while surrendering just four hits and a pair of walks.
NOTES
- Perez finished the day 4-for-7 with six RBI and three runs scored. His RBI triple in game two was his third career triple and first since his freshman campaign in 2017.
- Eeles finished 5-for-8 at the plate in the twinbill.
