BELMONT, N.C. - After sweeping doubles, the No. 24 University of North Georgia men's tennis team cruised on to a 6-1 win over Belmont Abbey Saturday.
North Georgia dominated the doubles matches, giving up just nine games to the Crusaders across the three matches. In singles play,
Ryan Gaskin got things going early for UNG, winning 6-3, 6-1 on the top line to push the match to a 2-0 score.
Zack Waldow earned the third point by identical 6-4 sets to keep the momentum going before Kevin Candido clinched the match with a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win on the No. 6 line.
After the match was clinched,
Daniel Ostap won in straight sets on the No. 2 line before
Mark Laishley won a three-set thriller at No. 5.
UNG will next take the court at Augusta on Monday to open PBC play. First serves fly at 1 p.m.
