MORROW, Ga. - Carrod Watson put up a career-high 22 points to lead the University of North Georgia men's basketball team to a regular season finale win over Clayton State Saturday in double overtime, 113-104.
North Georgia jumped out to a quick 7-0 start but Clayton State came back, tying the game up at 20-20 with 12:36 to play in the opening period. It was then the Lakers who took a seven-point lead at 27-20 before UNG clawed back into the game to knot the game at 34-34.
After North Georgia took a one-point lead into the half, both teams went back-and-forth in the second 20 minutes with Clayton State hitting the tying shot with 46 seconds left that would force overtime. In the first overtime period, it looked like the Lakers would take the victory in their final game of the year, but
Zach Brown's free throws with less than a minute left forced a second extra period that was all North Georgia.
NOTES
- Outside of Watson's 22 points, five other Nighthawks finished with double figures.
Ephraim Tshimanga had 21 points in 43 minutes played, while

- North Georgia is now 2-3 in overtime games this season.

NEXT UP
UNG will participate in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament and will be the No. 8 seed. They will either take on UNC Pembroke or Augusta, depending on Sunday's game at UNCP against Georgia Southwestern. A UNCP win would give the Braves the No. 1 seed outright, while a loss would send the top seed into a tiebreaker.
