DAHLONEGA - A fast start plus gritty defense was enough to give the No. 13 University of North Georgia women's basketball team a 58-44 win over Young Harris Wednesday night in the Convocation Center.
The Nighthawks pounced on Young Harris early, outscoring YHC 22-8 in the opening period. The Mountain Lions answered in the second period, holding UNG to just five points and cutting the lead down to eight at the break.
The second half was played much more evenly with both teams showing their defensive prowess. Neither of the two teams shot better than 38 percent from the floor as two of the best defensive teams in the region faced off.
NOTES
-
Julianne Sutton led the way with 19 points, while
Abbie Franklin and
Abby Hubert each added 16. Hubert's point total was good for a new career-high.
- The Mountain Lions pulled down 19 offensive boards but were only able to convert them into 14 second chance points.
