MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - A three-pointer by Jordan Thomas with 0.3 seconds left in overtime was enough to give Georgia College a 79-78 win over the University of North Georgia men's basketball team Saturday. Despite the loss, the Nighthawks clinched a spot in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference Tournament with a loss by Young Harris.
The two teams seesawed back-and-forth throughout the entirety of the game with the lead never getting more than six points in either team's favor. Thomas hit a shot with 59 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game up at 69-69.
Both teams had good looks at the basket in the final minute of the second half, but neither hit, forcing overtime. GC scored the first basket just over a minute into the extra period. The two defenses stood strong until the 1:43 mark when UNG started a 5-0 run to take a lead into the final minute. North Georgia led by two with 16 seconds left, but Thomas's three gave GC the win.
