No. 16 Women's Basketball to Open Season With Two Road Games This Week

DAHLONEGA - The No. 16 University of North Georgia women's basketball team is set to open the 2020-21 season this week with two road games against familiar foes. The Nighthawks will take on Augusta on Tuesday and Flagler on Friday, both of which will count as non-conference tilts.

The Nighthawks finished the 2019-20 season as the No. 2 seed in the Southeast Regional before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the premature conclusion of the season. UNG returns north of 60 percent of their scoring from a year ago, including PBC Player of the Year Julianne Sutton and All-Conference honoree Abbie Franklin.

At both games this week, no fans will be allowed inside the venues, but both games will be carried on each school's branch of the PBC Sports Network with links to be found on the women's basketball schedule page.

Augusta is 1-1 on the year, coming off a 26 point win over UNC Pembroke on Saturday. Senior Zariya West is averaging 12.5 points per game and is shooting 50 percent from the floor to lead the Jags.

Flagler will open their season on Friday against North Georgia after falling by 10 points in an exhibition matchup against USC Upstate on Sunday. Redshirt senior guard Jaziana Mathis led the Saints with 16 points against the Spartans.
