DAHLONEGA - After winning the first game, 2-1, the No. 5 University of North Georgia softball team's season came to a close with a 5-0 loss to Young Harris in the final game of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Saturday afternoon.
GAME 1 - UNG 2, YHC 1
North Georgia scored first on a solo homer from
Kaylyn Anthony in the top of the first, but YHC answered in the bottom of the inning on a Grace Botti RBI single to tie the game up, 1-1.
The Nighthawks scored what would end up being the game winning run in the fourth as
Katelyn Perry slid under a tag at home in the fourth inning. Both teams had opportunities to tack on more runs, but
Kylee Smith and Nikkie Kovalsky shut the door on the opposing batters to keep the score at 2-1.
GAME 2 - YHC 5, UNG 0
The Mountain Lions wasted no time getting on the board in the final game of the regional, scoring twice on a RBI single from Jill Torres in the top half of the first inning.
Young Harris struck again in the sixth with a RBI single to make the score 3-0. YHC added on two more on in the seventh to clinch their spot in the Super Regional next week.
NOTES
- The Nighthawks finish the year 45-13.
- Young Harris will travel to Lincoln Memorial next weekend for the Super Regional after the Railsplitters walked off Anderson in the Southeast Regional 2 final.
