FLORENCE, S.C. - The No. 16 University of North Georgia men's tennis team fell in the quarterfinal round of the Peach Belt Conference tournament to No. 7 Lander Saturday morning, 4-2.
The Bearcats claimed the doubles point quickly, giving up just three games in their wins at No. 1 and 3 to get the first point of the match.
Singles play was extremely competitive with
Ryan Gaskin tied the match with a straight set win at No. 3 singles. After Lander retook the lead with a win at No. 4,
Niklas Zielen won at the No. 1 spot to tie the match again, 2-2.
From there, it came down to three three-set matches with Lander taking the wins at No. 5 and 6 to clinch a spot in the semifinals.
North Georgia will await the NCAA selection show on Tuesday, May 7.
