AIKEN, S.C. - The No. 11 University of North Georgia women's tennis team took down No. 38 USC Aiken in the regular season finale Monday afternoon to finish in third in the Peach Belt standings.
The Nighthawks swept the doubles point with
Holly Bennett and
Vaishali Jorge winning 6-4 at No. 1,
Emma Etelalahti and
Adrienne Bofinger winning 7-6 at No. 2, and
Lexa Loden and
Cibeles Zuddy winning at No. 3, 6-4.
From there, UNG won the top five lines in singles play, all in straight sets. Bofinger, ranked No. 60 in the nation, upset No. 49 Elena Bompieri, 7-6, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, while No. 23 Jorge won 6-0, 6-0 in her singles match at No. 2.
The Nighthawks will await the release of the tournament bracket, but UNG will take on Francis Marion in the opening round of the conference tournament Thursday.
