DAHLONEGA - Kaylyn Anthony hit two homers in the doubleheader as the No. 3 University of North Georgia softball team swept Lander Saturday.
GAME 1 - UNG 8, LU 0 (5 inn.)
North Georgia got started quickly with back-to-back hits to lead off the first inning, the latter by
Hobby Gregory to score
Olivia Sinquefield and put UNG up, 1-0. Gregory scored later in the inning on a Bearcat error.
Two innings later,
Cheyanne Mosteller and Gregory scored on two Bearcat wild pitches to double the Nighthawk lead. Anthony hit her first homer of the game in the fourth, a two-run blast to left center to make the score 6-0.
Marley Stowers ended the game in the fifth with a two-run homer of her own to left field to get the game to the run rule.
Kylee Smith (17-1) earned the win going the distance and giving up just one hit. She struck out four Bearcats.
GAME 2 - UNG 4, LU 1
Katie Collins got the scoring started in the first inning with a RBI double that scored Gregory and put North Georgia up, 1-0. Anthony hit her second bomb of the day in the second inning to push the UNG lead to 2-0.
After Lander pushed a run across in the fourth, Gregory doubled to score Sinquefield before coming home to score on a Collins single to get the game to its final score.
Abbie Crawford (7-2) went the distance to earn the win, striking out five along the way.
NOTES
- Anthony went 3-for-5 at the plate. Gregory went 4-for-6 with four runs scored and two RBI.
- UNG allowed just five hits in the doubleheader.
- North Georgia has reached 30 wins for the 13th straight year.
