AMERICUS, Ga. - After an extra-inning game in the opener, the University of North Georgia baseball team finished off the sweep of Georgia Southwestern with a one-run win over the Hurricanes in the nightcap.
GAME 1 - UNG 4, GSW 2 (10 inn.)
The Nighthawks got things started in the fourth when a 
Bill LeRoy single, coupled with a 'Cane error, pushed 
Crews Taylor across for an early 1-0 lead. In the fifth, the Nighthawks doubled their lead on a Taylor RBI single.
GSW scored two runs in the eighth to tie the game on a Nighthawk error, but in the 10th inning, UNG's 
Chase Sudduth doubled to score Taylor and Josh Profit to bring the game to its final score.
Parker Morrison (3-0) earned the win in relief, while 
Brock Carter (1) earned the save. 
Steven Bower was credited with a no-decision after a seven-inning performance where the redshirt junior struck out six.
GAME 2 - UNG 5, GSW 4
UNG got things going early in the second game of the day, starting with a Sudduth triple that put North Georgia up early. Three batters later, 
Nik Levensteins brought Sudduth home to make the score, 2-0.
The Nighthawks put up two more in the third, starting with a 
Nick Clarno solo shot to left before a Profit triple plated 
Jake Arnold to push the lead to 4-0. North Georgia scored its fifth run in the fifth inning on an Arnold RBI groundout.
The 'Canes cut the lead down in the bottom of the fifth on back-to-back RBI singles before making it a two-run game in the seventh, scoring on a bases-loaded balk. GSW scored its final run on a UNG error in the ninth, but the Nighthawks held on for the win.
Derrick Pickvet (3-0) earned the win, going six innings and striking out six. Morrison earned his fifth save of the year.
NOTES
- Taylor led the way at the plate, going 3-for-7 in the doubleheader.
- North Georgia has now won 15 in a row over GSW.
