YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The No. 7 University of North Georgia men's tennis team won the Battle of Blood Mountain in style on Saturday as they swept aside conference rivals Young Harris, 7-0.
This win saw the Nighthawks move to 3-0 in PBC conference play, and they started once again by winning the doubles point. Zach Waldow and Kevin Candido got the ball rolling with a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles, and the point was clinched courtesy of
Ryan Gaskin and
Hugues Renaud following a 6-2 win.
Singles play was a fairly quick ordeal with all six matches finishing at a similar time.
Niklas Zielen got the team off to a quick start after his opponent retired with Zielen leading 6-2, 3-0. Waldow followed at No. 6 singles, recording a 6-2, 6-2 win, and the decisive match was won by Gaskin, who won the clinching point, 6-2, 6-0.
UNG now sits at 12-1 on the year and seem set to continue their nine-match winning streak. They return to the courts tomorrow where they are back at home to face No. 24 Queens. The match will be played at the UNG Tennis Complex and begins at 1 p.m.
