Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Skidgel's Three-Pointer Gives No. 22 Women's Basketball Share of PBC Regular Season Championship

DAHLONEGA - Amber Skidgel hit a three-pointer with 3.2 seconds left to give the University of North Georgia women's basketball team its largest lead of the night and held on to that lead for an 82-79 win over Lander University on Wednesday night to clinch at least a share of the Peach Belt regular season championship.

With a slow start of 11-2 in the Bearcats' favor, the Nighthawks crept back into the game and gave Lander fits as UNG never trailed by more than nine. The Nighthawks were able to tie the game with thirteen seconds left on the clock, and, after a Buffie Burson timeout, UNG executed a sideline out-of-bounds play that ended with a Skidgel bucket that clinched the win.

NOTES
- With the win, the Nighthawks ensure that they will be either the first or second seeded team in the Peach Belt Tournament next week. The Nighthawks can win back-to-back regular season outright championships with a win Saturday afternoon.

- Both teams made six shots behind the perimeter and only differed by two points in the paint with Lander holding the edge, 36-34.

- Skidgel and Julianne Sutton led the way with 21 points, while Tamera Thorpe and Vanessa Agrusa added 12 and 10, respectively.

NEXT UP
The Nighthawks will look for the outright championship when they travel to Georgia Southwestern on Saturday. Tip off is set for 1:30 p.m. in the Storm Dome.
