No. 11 Women's Basketball Downs No. 20 Carson-Newman, 67-62

DAHLONEGA - After trailing by four at the break, the No. 11 University of North Georgia women's basketball team went on a 12-4 run to start the third quarter and made the lead hold up as they took down No. 20 Carson-Newman, 67-62, Saturday in the North Georgia Classic.

The Nighthawks and Eagles traded baskets through much of the first half with C-N pulling out in front late in the half. Neither team shot the ball well in the first two stanzas, shooting a combined 17-of-62 from the floor in the first 20 minutes.

The offense heated up though for UNG in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles by 11 in the frame and shooting 9-for-11 from the floor in the period. The lead was as many as 12 in the fourth quarter, but Carson-Newman did not go quietly, forcing North Georgia to make free throws late to clinch the win.

NOTES
- North Georgia was led by four players in double figures, including Abbie Franklin who finished with a team-high 19 points. Julianne Sutton added 17, Kara Groover contributed 12 and Kyra Davis had 10 in the win.

- C-N's Kayla Marosites finished with a game-high 23 points after being held scoreless in the first half.

- The Nighthawks were outscored in every quarter but the third.

- In the other game of the classic Saturday, Life upset Clayton State, 61-60.

North Georgia will have a week before taking the floor again when they travel to Belmont Abbey next Saturday.
