JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The No. 24 University of North Georgia women's golf team bested the field in the Jekyll-O-Lantern Intercollegiate, taking home the tournament title after a 296 in the final round, good for a tie for the third best 18-hole team score in program history.
Megan Sabol finished in second place with a 1-under 143 for the tournament, tying the fourth-best 36-hole total in UNG women's golf history along the way. Sabol now holds each of the top five spots in the 36-hole scoring records.
The Nighthawks' two-day total of 22-over 596 is the third best team total in a 36-hole event in program history as well. North Georgia shot five shots better than the field Tuesday to win by seven strokes over Montevallo. West Georgia finished in third place, followed by Columbus State and West Florida.
The win marks the fourth time in UNG's history that the women bring home a tournament title, and it is the first time since the Fulll Moon BBQ Invitational in the fall of 2018 that the program has claimed first place.
Carson Roberts also earned a top 10 finish, coming in at a tie for ninth with a score of 6-over 150.
Miranda Rich finished tied for 12th two shots back of Roberts while
Alexis Whitney (t20, +11) and
Karson Stone (t23, +12) also earned top 25 finishes in the 83-player field.
