SURPRISE, Ariz. - Despite a hard fought match, the No. 29 University of North Georgia women's tennis team's season came to an end Tuesday evening at the hands of No. 4 West Florida, 5-1, in the NCAA Division II round of 16 at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex.
After the Argos took a quick 8-2 match at No. 3 doubles, the Nighthawks battled at the top two flights back and forth before West Florida eventually won both with scores of 8-6.
UNG didn't go quietly in singles either. At No. 1 singles,
Felicia Baratta fought to a 7-5 dropped first set before her match was called off after the Argos claimed their fifth point.
Adrienne Bofinger battled in a first-set tiebreak that went 22 points long before UWF claimed that set as well.
The Argos got point four at No. 6 singles in straight sets. Just a few moments later,
Cibeles Zuddy claimed the Nighthawks lone match at No. 4 singles, winning 7-5, 6-1 before UWF won at No. 3 singles to advance on in the tournament.
North Georgia finishes the season at 16-8 and advanced through the regional round for the first time in program history.
