AUGUSTA, Ga. - After falling in back-to-back matches against top-40 teams, the No. 50 University of North Georgia men's tennis team got back on the winning track with a 6-3 win over Augusta in Peach Belt Conference play Friday at the Newman Tennis Center. The Nighthawks are now 8-5 and 2-4 in league play.
After being given a 1-0 start due to a shortage of Jaguars, the Nighthawks earned the second point of the day by way of an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles by Kevin Candido and
Carl Bedrot. In the tightest match of the day at the top doubles flight, Augusta earned a 9-7 decision to bring the match to a 2-1 score.
North Georgia went up 3-1 immediately as the Jaguars conceded the No. 6 singles match, but Augusta brought the match back to a 3-2 score by winning at No. 5. UNG, however, won the next three matches to finish at Nos. 2 through 4 in straight sets. Augusta earned the final point of the match at No. 1 doubles to bring the match to its final score.
The Nighthawks will have a quick turnaround as they will take on No. 27 Mount Olive tomorrow morning at Young Harris. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
