DAHLONEGA - After falling in all three doubles matches, the No. 32 University of North Georgia men's tennis team almost pulled off a near-impossible comeback over No. 39 Young Harris, falling 5-4 Friday afternoon at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek Park.
The Mountain Lions came out strong, winning at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, and No. 3 doubles, 8-6.
Carl Bedrot and Kevin Candido put up a fight at No. 2 doubles, eventually falling in a tiebreak to put the Nighthawks in a 3-0 hole headed to singles.
Niklas Zielen got things started at singles, winning in straight sets to cut into the YHC lead, but Guilherme Sergio put Young Harris one point away from victory with his straight-set win at No. 2. After a three-set win for
Tim Kiehl at No. 3 singles,
Mark Laishley found himself in a back-and-forth match at No. 4, eventually falling in the third set, 7-5, clinching the win for YHC.
Zack Waldow and Kevin Candido each won their matches in singles to bring the match to its final score.
The Nighthawks will next be in action on Sunday at Lander. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
