Four-Run Ninth Pushes Baseball Past Augusta, 4-1

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Trailing 1-0 headed to the ninth, the University of North Georgia baseball team scored four runs off three hits and a Jaguar error to take game one of a three-game Peach Belt Conference series against Augusta, 4-1, Friday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

The Jaguars scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the first, using a Harrison Moore RBI double to score the game's first run.

After the first inning, both teams' pitchers settled in. Cade Heil retired 18 of the next 20 Jaguars he faced, while Augusta's Sam Goberdhan gave up just three hits and two walks in the eight innings he pitched.

After the Jaguars changed pitchers to start the ninth inning, the Nighthawks came alive on offense, sending the entire lineup to the plate in the ninth. William Mapes and Andres Perez each drew walks to start the ninth before Conner Corbitt tied the game up with a double to right field. Bill LeRoy followed with a single up the middle to give North Georgia the lead, 2-1.

Jake Arnold increased the lead with a RBI fielder's choice to plate Corbitt before the Nighthawks loaded the bases, paving the way for Joshua Profit to draw a walk to bring in the game's final run. Heil sat down Augusta in order in the bottom of the ninth to clinch the win for UNG.

NOTES
- Heil (3-4) threw his fourth complete game of the season, striking out three and scattering four hits across the nine innings.

- Corbitt and LeRoy each hit 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the way for UNG. The two, along with Andres Perez, are all sporting four-game hitting streaks.

- After playing the longest game of the season on Wednesday night, North Georgia played in its shortest game of the season tonight, completing the nine innings in two hours and 19 minutes.
