DAHLONEGA - For the second year in a row, the University of North Georgia men's soccer team has been eliminated from the Peach Belt Conference tournament in penalties, falling this year in the quarterfinals to Clayton State, 5-4. The match goes as a draw in the record books after overtime ended in a 0-0 tie.
Both teams had numerous opportunities at goal in regulation and in overtime. In the first half,
Matt Sharman kept CSU off the scoreboard when he dove to his right to keep an Ignacio Perez header out of the net. North Georgia forced the Laker goalie to make three crucial saves in the first overtime period.
After Brad Kay sailed the first PK of the shootout,
Adam Farrell stepped up and struck the ball to the left side of net, but the Laker keeper made a one-handed save to keep the score level. Both teams traded goals until the sixth round when CSU's Connor Atkinson made the PK and
Evan Davis's shot was saved by Leuri Fraire, allowing Clayton State to advance to the semifinals.
