AMERICUS, Ga. - One of the best defensive quarters of the season helped the No. 21 University of North Georgia women's basketball team blow past Georgia Southwestern Saturday afternoon in GSW's Storm Dome, 83-70.
After the Nighthawks went to the locker room up seven at the break, the defense stifled the Hurricanes, holding them to just three points on 1-of-13 shooting. UNG forced 11 turnovers in the period. The fourth quarter allowed GSW to cut into the lead, but the game never got closer than the final margin of 13 points.
Mackenzie Darrah notched her first double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and nabbing 10 boards to pace the Nighthawks.
NOTES
- UNG tallied 56 points in the paint in the contest to just 36 for the Hurricanes.
- Tyisha Moore led three Georgia Southwestern players in double figures with 14 points.
- With the win, the Nighthawks have a 10-game winning streak. This is the seventh time since the 2001-02 season that North Georgia has won 10 or more times consecutively.
