No. 2 Nighthawks Set School Record for Runs in a Game with 27-3 Win Over Emmanuel

DAHLONEGA, Ga. — After struggling to find timely hits in the series opener the second-ranked University of North Georgia baseball team took advantage of nearly every scoring opportunity that presented itself Saturday evening, downing Emmanuel, 27-3. The 27 runs set a new UNG record for runs scored in a single game. The Nighthawks move to 39-8 on the year with the win.

Emmanuel led off the scoring in the top of the first with a single run off a RBI double. The score would remain 1-0 through three innings. A severe thunderstorm popped up just south of Dahlonega in the top of the third and prompted a one-hour and 24-minute lightning delay.

The Nighthawks took control of the game after the delay, opening the floodgates in the bottom of the fourth, scoring 11 runs on nine hits.

UNG went on to score five runs in the following inning on just three hits. North Georgia then added another seven runs in the seventh. They finished the scoring with four more runs in the eighth. Emmanuel took advantage of a pair of rare UNG infield errors in the top of the ninth, scoring two unearned runs to give the game its final score, 27-3.

NOTES
- Dylan Peppers (7-2) went six innings allowing just one run on four hits while striking out seven.

- Logan Burt picked up the three-inning save for the Nighthawks, allowing only one hit while striking out two.

- North Georgia set the record for most runs in a single game with the 27 scored, breaking the former record set on April 19, 2008 against Georgia Southwestern when they plated 25.

- UNG tied a single game record with seven hit batsmen, while also tying the record for second most hits in a game with 24.
