DAHLONEGA, Ga. - Despite being outhit 17-11, the third-ranked University of North Georgia baseball team clinched at least a share of the Peach Belt Conference regular season title following a 10-8 victory over Flagler on Friday evening at UNG's Bob Stein Stadium. Following the win, the Nighthawks are now 34-8 overall and 17-5 in the Peach Belt.
North Georgia got the ball rolling in the bottom half of the first, scoring the first two runs off of a
Connor Hoover homerun that plated
Devin Gearhart, who reached on a single through the left side. The homerun was Hoover's team-leading 13
th of the season.
The third UNG run came in the second when
Kal Dempsey was able to score on a sacrifice fly from Hoover.
In the third, North Georgia plated six runs off of seven hits, including two more homeruns, both two-run shots from
Trevor Sams and
Conner Corbitt, making the score 9-0.
The Saints immediately answered back in the top of the fourth with their first run of the night off of a first-pitch homerun to left centerfield. Flagler went on bring across one more run in the inning after an RBI-single to make the score 9-2.
The Saints scored two more in the fifth inning, coming off of a sacrifice fly and an RBI-single. Flagler tacked on one more in the sixth, making the score 9-5.
The Nighthawks had their last say in the bottom of the sixth after Corbitt was able to score on a throwing error.
An unexpected rainstorm took the stage in the ninth were the Saints made the game interesting scoring three runs on three hits making the final score 10-8. Flagler was able to bring the go ahead run to the plate, but
Jack Fleming picked up his second save of the season after slamming the door by forcing a flyout to end the game
Josh Bryan (4-0) is credited with the win after 1.2 innings of relief work, giving up just one hit.

Connor Hoover had five RBIs on his two hits, moving into fifth place in runs produced in the Peach Belt with 53.
- With the win, the Nighthawks clinched at least a share of the regular-season Peach Belt Conference title, making it just the second time in the North Georgia NCAA era, the last being in 2015.
