GREENWOOD, S.C. — The eighth-ranked University of North Georgia baseball team bounced back to win their first Peach Belt Conference series of the season, 2-1, following a 8-1 victory over Lander on the road Sunday Afternoon. With the series win North Georgia improves to 12-4 on the season and 2-1 in the league.
The Nighthawks got rolling in the top of the third after three walks and a single from
Connor Hoover drove in the first run. UNG brought home three more runs in the inning following an error by the Lander shortstop, and a fielder's choice.
The Nighthawks were able to put two more runs on the board in the fourth, with three more walks paired with hits from
Kal Dempsey and Hoover and chasing Lander's second pitcher game.
The Bearcats answered back with a run in the bottom half of the fourth with a single to make the score 6-1. The score remained 6-1 until the top of the eighth inning when the Nighthawks tacked on two insurance runs after a two-RBI single from
Trevor Sams.
Daniel McCrary (3-1) picked up the win after striking out seven batters and allowing just six hits in his six innings of work.
