McCrary Tosses Complete Game Shutout; No. 7 Baseball Sweeps Pirates

DAHLONEGA, Ga. — The seventh-ranked University of North Georgia baseball team earned a clean sweep of the visiting Pirates of Armstrong State following a pair of Sunday Afternoon home runs and a shutout performance from Daniel McCrary on the mound to give the Nighthawks a 4-0 victory. With the win, North Georgia improves to 16-4 overall and 5-1 overall in the Peach Belt Conference.

Trevor Sams got the Nighthawks going, hitting the first pitch of the bottom of the second inning deep over the wal in left center to give North Georgia an early 1-0 lead.

The bats got going again for the Nighthawks in the seventh as a double hit into the leftfield corner by Andres Perez and a pitch that hit Connor Hoover set runners on first and second for Michael Gouge to clear the bases in the next at bat with a towering homer to center to extend the UNG lead to 4-0.

Daniel McCrary (4-1) earned the win on the mound with the complete game, shutout, striking out four while scattering eight Armstrong hits.

NOTES
- The nine-inning complete game shutout is the first of McCrary's collegiate career. The Dahlonega native went the distance in a rain-shortened game last season.

- Michael Gouge earned his seventh home run of the season with his three-run shot in the seventh inning. Gouge's seven home runs moves him into tie for fourth plate in the Peach Belt Conference. Gouge also keeps his spot at second in RBI, with 37 on the season, including three in today's contest.

- North Georgia now owns a slight 17-16 all-time advantage over Armstrong in the last ever regular season meeting between the Nighthawks and the Pirates with this being Armstrong's last year with intercollegiate athletics.

NEXT UP
