MORROW, Ga. — The University of North Georgia men's basketball team could never seem to get in a rhythm Monday evening, falling to Clayton State, 89-63. The Nighthawks slip to 12-11 on the season with an 8-6 mark in Peach Belt Conference play.
The Lakers led wire-to-wire in the contest. While UNG kept the game close through the first two media timeouts, Clayton State pulled away in the last eight minutes of the opening period, taking a 19-point lead into halftime. Things wouldn't get much better in the second half as the Nighthawks were never able to pull together an extended run to get the game back to a manageable score. CSU held its largest lead at 31 with just two minutes left in the game.
NOTES
-
Shaquan Cantrell led the scoring effort for UNG with 16 points.
Duke Robinson was the only other Nighthawk to score in double figures with his 11-point effort.
- The 26-point deficit is the largest in a loss for North Georgia this season.
- The loss is the sixth consecutive to Clayton State with the last UNG win coming in 2014.
