DAHLONEGA | The University of North Georgia baseball team won a weather-shortened five inning game over Emmanuel, 5-1, Saturday night at Bob Stein Stadium. The game saw over 2.5 hours of delays before being called after the top half of the fifth inning.
Â
Emmanuel put the first run of the game on the board in the top half of the inning. After loading the bases, Stephen Skeggs shot a single to right center to score Jonah Reyes that put the Lions up, 1-0.
Â
UNG tied it up moments later. After a leadoff walk drawn by
Devin Gearhart and a single by
Joshua Profit, Gearhart scored on a passed ball to draw even with the Lions. After a 1:07 rain delay, the Nighthawks jumped back on the scoreboard on a
Trevor Sams sacrifice fly, putting UNG on top, 2-1.
Â
Joshua Peterson kept the runs coming in the second as he hit his third homer of the season, a no-doubter to right center that stretched the Nighthawk lead to 4-1.
Â
After a leadoff single, Peterson would score his second run of the day on a Gearhart sacrifice fly in the fourth that extended North Georgia's lead to 5-1.
Â
Emmanuel added a final run in the fifth that brought the game to the final 5-2 score. The game was called in the fifth due to inclement weather.
